Things to Know

  • For US Citizens traveling from the mainland there is no need to bring a passport.

  • The currency in Puerto Rico is the US Dollar and major credit cards are accepted in most places. ATM’s for US and International banks are found all over the island.

  • Puerto Rico stays on Atlantic Standard Time (UTC + 4) thoughout the year.

  • There is a State Tax of 11.5% on most purchases.

  • Emergency Services can be reached by dialing 911. Operators are bilingual:  English/Spanish.

  • Electricity is the same voltage as the United States 110-120 volts, European equipment will need an adaptor.

  • Mosquito repellent and sun block is recommended and can be found in pharmacies and major grocery stores on the island.

  • Mail is delivered by the United States Postal Service.  There is UPS, Federal Express, and other mail services in the Island
